Chadwick Arcinue's highly textured paintings emerge out of a worker trained in the precise world of numbers and formulas. Having spent nearly twenty years in the finance industry, he transitioned into the field of painting, which allowed him to pursue his longtime passion for design. "Picking up the brush," as he puts it, relies on a process of intuitive experimentation. Arcinue traces his artistic roots to the impressionist style, evoking the characteristic textures and palettes of the period; however, his current body of work favors more abstract mixed with expressionist.
Dreamscapes mapped in clouds, shapes of waves and brilliant colors envelop the surface of the canvas. Singular forms shift, representing the fluidity of a mind influenced by the Filipino immigrant imagination along with his need for exploration and self-discovery. His practice stems from painting the possibility of images, inspired by his travels all over the world, serving as his de facto training in art; Arcinue sees what they could be as a representative journey. Happening in flashes, or glimpses of flickers, the images evoke recurring memories told at a distance. A span of abstract stories come forth from the setting of a sleepy, small-town, to that of a sleepless city. The disruption of a changing environment, caught in the throes of constant re-settlement, also heavily influence each piece.
